Functional Medicine Visit at Pure Health

STEP 01

Your first step will be to schedule an initial Pure Health interview with Dr. Matthew Marcotte, our expert Functional Medicine Doctor. On the appointment you will receive a thorough clinical history and evaluation, while assessing your needs and goals to determine if a Functional Medicine program is right for you. After scheduling your appointment, will be guided to what forms and questionnaires will be required. All intake forms and questionnaires need to be completed and submitted at least 24 hours before your initial appointment. That way the doctor can review before your appointment so he has a better understanding and has the complete picture going into your office visit.

STEP 02

The initial appointment with Dr. Marcotte usually takes up to an hour. The purpose and expectation of this appointment is to gather a thorough clinical history and the specific goals and needs you have going forward. By the end of this appointment Dr. Marcotte will either let you know he feels confident in taking on your case and reaching the goals you desire or he may refer you to a more appropriate provider that will have a better idea how to reach your goals. Either way rest assured you will be taken seriously and like a human being, not just another number.

STEP 03

If both you and him decide to work together he will layout a specific plan of action. You may be asked to perform a functional healing program and/or specific diagnostic lab testing that will provide important data about your current systems such as digestive function, hormone health, micronutrient status or other specialized tests that are relevant to your particular condition.

STEP 04

Follow up visits are usually up to an hour long to discuss the results of your functional diagnostic testing. We will be reviewing specific protocol based on the analysis of your results. In between office visits it is encouraged to communicate via email or quick phone calls as you are going through the program. This approach addresses the whole person which is why we can get to the root cause of your health condition. It’s important that we work together as a team to get the results we deserve. 42-year-old female with IBS and fatigue

CASE #1

A 42-year-old female with an 11-year history of irritable bowel syndrome and fatigue had consulted with four medical physicians.

Traditional medical approach - Medical testing included an upper and lower GI study and colonoscopy. All found negative for any pathologies. Treatment consisted of the prescription hyoscyamine.
Results were poor.
Functional medical approach - Following an extensive history and review of her medical records, a digestive stool test and an allergy blood test were done. Two bacterial pathogens were found: Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Citrobacter freundii. The medical literature clearly linked these pathogens to diarrhea disease. An allergy test revealed a significant sensitivity to gluten and rice. The patient was prescribed a natural pharmaceutical that helped eradicate the two bacterial pathogens and was placed on an elimination diet addressing the rice and gluten. After one month,
she was symptom-free.
